This is the date Doc Brown invents time travel. He slips and hits his head while trying to hang a clock, and conceives the idea for the flux capacitor. This is a pivotal moment in the Back to the Future storyline, enabling the entire series' plot. It is also referenced in the film when Marty travels back to this date.
